Connecting the dots

A startup’s product doesn’t reach customers by pure luck. Successful teams put a lot of effort into designing every part of the customer journey, from the moment when people first hear about a new product to the day they are ready to recommend it to others.

The AAARRR pirate funnel is useful tool to connect the dots between product design, marketing and sales. It gives startups a neat overview of the touch points that influence the total customer experience. These are Awareness, Activation, Acquisition, Retention, Revenue, and Referral.

We recently used this model together with the forestry startup Katam. By replacing old processes with digital tools, Katam aims to make the forestry industry more efficient and profitable. Most importantly, their vision is to make a massive impact on sustainability by significantly increasing the volume of wood grown worldwide.

Here are some of the touch points we helped design for Katam’s SAAS offering:

Awareness: Video tutorials

New customers often find Katam through LinkedIn. Explainer videos help forestry professionals discover Katam’s services and see how they can benefit from them.

AQUISITION: Web SITE

When people want to learn more about Katam, the redesigned website provides all the info needed. It helps build trust in the solutions and it has a clear call to action.

ACTIVATION: Google Play

Once someone is ready to try out the KATAM Forest app, its page on Google Play page informs them once more about the benefits they are about to access.

RETENTION: App Design

After KATAM Forest is downloaded, users are efficiently onboarded and quickly discover the most valuable features of the app. There is demo content and examples of analysed data they will access when they start using the app in the field.

REVENUE: PRICING PAGE

After a free trial ends, the Stripe payment solution on Katam’s web makes is easy for forestry professionals to become paying customers.

REFERRAL: SHAREABLE reports

The end result after using Katam’s solutions are elegant reports that forestry professionals can use to make better informed business decisions. They have a striking design and are easy to share with others so they can discover the power of Katam’s services.

Together, all these redesigned touch points enable Katam to maintain a stylish and consistent way of communicating with their customers. It sends the message that this startup is reliable, ambitious and here to stay.
